Leader Crew Development

Working between Perth HQ and Virgin Australia's domestic terminal, we seek a highly motivated, safety-focused individual to join the VARA team. As the Leader Crew Development – Operations, you will provide proactive safety-focused leadership to a remote, customer-facing Cabin Crew workforce.

Leaders display presence and stature as they lead crew safety standards and inspire strong safety motivation through personal contact and the consistent application of company performance and safety measures. In this role, you will be highly involved in the interface with cabin day of operations. You will oversee Cabin Crew activities relating to safety reporting and investigations, on-time performance, policies and procedures and project management. A critical success factor of this role is to lead and manage the VARA Cabin Crew safety systems.

 

Key Accountabilities

In this role, your key accountabilities include:

  • Champion a Safety Culture
  • Ensure cabin line operations are conducted in accordance with the Company policies and regulatory rules governing the operation
  • Manage Cabin Crew safety reporting and investigations
  • Manage Cabin Crew fatigue management systems
  • In collaboration with our partners across the business, develop a safety capability that allows us to look over the horizon and prevent unsafe outcomes
  • Act as the Flight and Cabin Operations business resilience coordinator
  • Coordinate project initiatives within the Cabin Operations department in accordance with the Safety Systems policy
  • Implement effective policies and procedures through structured safety governance processes
  • Ensure the Cabin Crew team is up to date with compulsory online training
  • General Cabin Crew group communication
  • Create a culture where our people seek improvement through working smarter and reducing waste
  • Build a performance-driven culture and develop our leadership capabilities to deliver on our strategic business promises

Key Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Ability to coach and mentor team members
  • Emotional intelligence; the ability to read, monitor and understand personal and crew behaviours and respond to affect positive outcomes
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new skills and processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to produce low-error work and apply analytical thinking. 
  • Ability to drive positive safety outcomes through a large, diverse workforce.
  • Project Management skills
  • Strong cause-and-effect thinking
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Previous experience as Cabin Crew (desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and build a productive team environment.

About Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA)

VARA operates out of Perth Airport and has a fleet of F100 aircraft and A320 aircraft that predominantly conduct charter operations throughout regional Western Australia. VARA has continued to operate through COVID-19 and beyond to support our major clients in the mining industry, and the future is exciting and prosperous.

The Cabin Operations Department is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of VARA aircraft and, in doing so, ensures a high level of compliance with agency rules appropriate to its operations. Additionally, Cabin Operations ensures its personnel and operations comply with those policies to achieve high levels of safety and customer deliverables.
