Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing

The objective of the Senior Manager, Transformation role is to provide leadership, coaching and expertise in the identification, prioritisation and delivery of value-creating initiatives within the context of the overall Operations Transformation Program, and to embed and optimise a more agile way of working in support of this. This role sits within the Operations Transformation division of the business and reports to the Head of Operations Transformation. You will work with all the 'Operations' functions and departments to identify and work through transformation concepts and bring them to life as fully-formed ideas and proposals, that are then approved at GLT/ELT level. You will then drive the implementation of these ideas.

Further responsibilities:

  • See opportunities yet to be identified and/or those that have been undervalued and escalate their priority with Sponsors and Executives
  • Interrogate initiatives to ensure leaders are capturing and focusing resource effort on initiatives with the highest return
  • Maintain familiarity with the highest value initiatives and provide support on delivery risks/gaps to ensure optimal and timely value realisation
  • Coach the business to create a proactive and agile way of working with respect to the prioritisation and management of value accretive initiatives
  • Simplifying and breaking-down large projects into smaller initiatives that can be delivered rapidly ‘in the line’
  • Showing strong leadership in the application of the results rhythm and prioritisation/de-prioritisation of initiatives based on value creation and expediency of delivery
  • Routinely interrogate data captured in the ARC tool to ensure data integrity
  • Work in partnership with finance to ensure accurate representation of value analysis
  • Routinely review client-base compliance with governance protocols and coach leaders on gaps
  • Seek out and realise opportunities to improve a more collaborative and cross-functional way of working (i.e. break down silos)
  • Support efforts to drive ELT alignment on key transformation issues (e.g. transformation plan, value, priorities)
  • Manage integrated delivery plan, accounting for risks/interdependencies and incl. tracking of key decisions required from ELT/CEO

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • Bachelors Degree, ideally in the fields of Business, Commerce or Accounting (or equivalent business experience)
  • Experience championing an Operations Transformation program, ideally in aviation or a related sector
  • Experience with creating complex business cases for ELT
  • Operational experience with financial budgeting, governance/controls
  • Experience working closely with and an ability to influence Senior Management/Executives
  • Operational experience in the application of business improvement programs
  • Project Management of complex, cross-functional projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong skills with Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal, engagement and communication skills (written, oral and listening)
  • Ability to achieve outcomes through influence (rather than authority)
  • Proven ability to identify, develop and evaluate strategic options and opportunities using applied forward thinking and entrepreneurial approaches

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):
