Product Owner, NDC (New Distribution Capability)

What you’ll be doing:

This role sits as part of the Distribution team, driving the strategy and execution related to how Virgin Australia distributes its products to the direct and indirect sales channels. 

As the Product Owner of New Distribution Capability (NDC) you will be responsible for converting the NDC product roadmap into an actionable backlog for delivery, prioritising quarterly to meet the objectives set in the Distribution strategy in a systematic manner. You will do this in support of the go to market strategy with oversight and alignment of the NDC Sabre product (and its surrounding dependencies). 

Your role will be to balancing feasibility, quality, value and overall health of the product from inception to BAU and operations. 

You will maximise the Air booking profitability in Distribution channels and will ensure that the NDC product delivers both commercial and customer objectives. You will do this by coordinating the delivery of new product features and capabilities to align with Virgin Australia’s NDC value proposition.

This will include but not be limited to;

  • Maximise the product value by being ‘fit for purpose’ for onboarding key integration partners. 
  • Understand and monitor the operational costs and benefits of the NDC solution 
  • Responsible for leading the team's delivery, making sure they know what to focus on and have enough detail and runway to deliver. 
  • Identify, define and improve broken, fragmented or non-functional experiences in the NDC distribution channel. 
  • Review all requests from the Manager, Retailing Platforms, including dependencies. 
  • Generate a preliminary list of features including customer centric, business mandatory and non-functional requirements. 
  • Define high level sprint goals using performance against service level objectives as key inputs. 
  • Work with the scrum master and lead the definition of epics to enable detailed user stories to be developed (including user outcomes, solutions, etc.) 
  • Prioritise sprint drops based on effort and impact on product goals including calculated trade-offs on technical debt and non-functional requirements. 
  • Review and approve the story/task level product requirements. 
  • Set acceptance criteria for features and go/no-go criteria for solution go-to-market. 
  • Iterate on solutions, epics, user stories, prototypes. 
  • Iterate on design and test with users, and trade partners 
  • Demonstrate new features and non-functional requirements to stakeholders/team. 
  • Drive user testing and retro/reviews 
  • Refine outline of next sprint/release and go-forward optimization plan, if needed 
  • Accountable to measure, report and achieve product delivery KPIs for the epics and sprint drops. 

Who we’re looking for:

You will have expert knowledge in airline product development with a proven track record in delivering complex projects. You will be versed in working in an agile environment, leading agile projects and cross functional teams. You will have highly developed stakeholder management skills with ability to interact at all levels of a complex organisation as well as with external stakeholders. You will have a data driven approach sing analytics to identify opportunities to improve capabilities.

Ideal Technical Requirements:

  • Ability to use Postman (or similar) to query an NDC API to parse, create, and read XML
  • Hands on technical experience with Automated API Testing and management
  • Ability to read NDC Schema definition Files (XSD's)
  • Ability to use Browser stack
  • Ability to troubleshoot scenarios using the NDC APIs
  • Ability to support internal and external stakeholders on best practice NDC implementations

Ideal Industry Knowledge:

  • Good understanding of legacy Systems (PSS, ticketing, PNR's)
  • Good understanding of the industry vision with Offers & Orders
  • Good understanding of general aviation distribution concepts (both technical and commercial)
  • Exposure to Industry Standards
