The role:

The Data and Critical Systems Security Specialist is responsible for the development, review, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Virgin Australia Group’s data security program.  Working closely with Group Privacy, Compliance and system stewards this role will support the group’s obligations for OAIC, APP, GDPR, SOCI and other compliance and legislative requirements around both data and critical systems. 

As a member of the Information Security Team the role will provide support to other specialists; especially support to audits and security reporting, but also in production of risk and maturity assessments related to data and critical systems. 

In addition, you will:

  • Develop, review, implement, and maintain the VA Data Security Program to protect personal information (PI) and critical data, ensuring compliance with legislative standards.
  • Collaborate with specialists to identify and mitigate security risks to PI and business-critical data/systems.
  • Create and manage a metrics framework to measure compliance with data security controls and their overall effectiveness.
  • Maintain PI Data Maps and conduct routine audits of systems, processes, data storage, and business owners.
  • Stay updated on data security legislation and best practices, ensuring the implementation of necessary changes.

What you need to be successful:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate complex thoughts and ideas clearly.
  • Experience in consulting and client-facing roles.
  • High level understanding of critical technical infrastructure and networking.
  • Ability to work with differing stakeholders including external vendors.
  • Strong time management skills which allow for multi-tasking whilst managing shifting priorities.
  • Innovative thinker with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for organisational and process improvements.
  • A thorough understanding of the project/system development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with privacy laws, data protection, and information security regulations, and frameworks such as GDPR.

 

Desirable but not essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in IT or similar field.
  • Experience of PI data management remediation projects in a large, complex enterprise environment.
  • Ability to conduct IT risk assessments and providing solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Strong understanding of PI data information management security standards and Australian privacy law.
