Maintenance Planning Leader

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing

As the Maintenance Planning Leader, you will play a crucial role in ensuring Virgin Australia's regulatory compliance for both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Leading the Planning team, you will focus on the effective implementation of the airline’s Approved Maintenance Program and the timely, cost-effective management of open defects. Your responsibilities will include analysing long-term maintenance needs to maximise aircraft availability and minimise costs, evaluating Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities, and predicting ongoing maintenance requirements based on fleet size, usage, and other variables. You will develop maintenance plans in accordance with the Approved Maintenance Program, define and communicate work scopes for maintenance visits, and ensure adherence to Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) contractual agreements.

Safety is paramount, and you will ensure routine and non-routine maintenance is scheduled to meet deadlines, maintaining compliance with Virgin Australia’s Continuing Airworthiness Management Exposition, Engineering Business Procedures, and applicable Work Instructions. You will also be responsible for raising reports on significant events with potential safety, quality, or compliance implications and conducting routine and ad-hoc quality audits.

In terms of continuous improvement, you will monitor the performance and effectiveness of the planning process, model desired leadership behaviours, and mentor team members to reach their full potential. You will provide performance feedback to management, ensure staff training according to schedules and plans, and identify and implement system and process improvements.

Effective leadership and communication are key aspects of this role. You will maintain effective communication with all team members, manage rosters, support the team as needed, handle performance management according to position descriptions and departmental indicators, and assist in the recruitment and selection of staff in collaboration with management.
